Jacob Elordi Calls Adolescence Star Owen Cooper, “Intimidating”

Adolescence breakout Owen Cooper is only 15, but he’s already leaving Hollywood veterans speechless, including Jacob Elordi.

While filming Netflix’s highly anticipated Wuthering Heights adaptation, Elordi admitted that Cooper’s performance was so powerful, it caught him off guard.

The Saltburn actor, who plays the adult version of Heathcliff, spoke to Australia’s 10 News First about working with Cooper, who portrays the character’s younger self. “He’s a rock star. He’s brilliant and he’s intimidating,” Jacob said of his teenage co-star, who rose to fame for his chilling lead role in Adolescence, a Netflix drama about a high school murder scandal.

Jacob recalled the first time they met on set: “I asked him, ‘Are you nervous, mate?’ and he went, ‘No.’ I thought, ‘Cool … cool, me neither.’” He laughed but made it clear that Owen is the real deal: “He is a tremendous actor.”

Netflix’s Wuthering Heights, directed by Emerald Fennell, is already stacking up to be a prestige powerhouse. Alongside Cooper and Elordi, the cast features Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw, Shazad Latif as Edgar Linton, Hong Chau as Nelly Dean, and Saltburn’s Alison Oliver as Isabella Linton.

Margot is also producing the film through her LuckyChap banner, which previously backed Saltburn and Promising Young Woman. The collaboration with Fennell continues a creative streak that’s redefined how audiences engage with classic and psychological material.

For Owen Cooper, this is a massive leap from Adolescence, where his performance as a wrongly accused teenager won over critics and fans alike. In that show, Cooper displayed a depth and intensity rarely seen from actors his age. Elordi’s reaction on set proves that was no fluke.

“I’m telling you, he’s got this calm confidence that’s kind of scary, in a good way,” Elordi added. “He wasn’t nervous. He just locked in and delivered.”

Director Emerald Fennell teased the film with a post quoting one of the novel’s most famous lines: “Be with me always, take any form, drive me mad.” The tone is expected to match her signature style, twisted, psychological, and visually intense.

Even Barry Keoghan, Elordi’s Saltburn co-star, told Variety he’d jump at the chance to be involved. “Anything that Emerald puts her hands on, I’m there,” he said.

Robbie herself has praised Fennell’s unique grasp of narrative tension. “She gets in your brain and taps into the most depraved parts of it,” Robbie said. “That’s the thing people are talking about two weeks later.”

With Owen Cooper’s fierce delivery, Jacob Elordi’s brooding charm, and Emerald Fennell’s vision, Wuthering Heights is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most talked-about adaptations of 2026.
