Microsoft has officially announced that the date for its next Xbox Games Showcase, with a dedicated “The Outer Worlds 2” Direct immediately following the main event.
The broadcast is scheduled to stream at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST on June 8, 2025, continuing Xbox’s annual tradition of previewing its biggest upcoming titles from both first-party studios and third-party partners.
Details on the game lineup have not been confirmed, but expectations are already running high. Industry watchers are speculating that this year’s showcase could include a first look at the next “Call of Duty” installment, the long-rumored “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4” remaster, and possibly new information or even a teaser on “The Elder Scrolls VI”, which has remained under tight wraps since its announcement.
Microsoft shared the announcement via an official blog post on Xbox Wire, stating:
“It all begins with our annual Xbox Games Showcase, bringing you a look at upcoming titles from across our first-party studios, in addition to incredible new titles from our third-party partners across the globe. This year, the show will be digital-only – our livestream will bring you everything you’ll need to know about what’s next for Xbox, no matter where in the world you’re watching.”
The showcase will be fully livestreamed, with global access and no in-person events, continuing Microsoft’s commitment to a digital-first rollout of major announcements.
Immediately after the main showcase, Xbox will air a separate “The Outer Worlds 2” Direct, focusing solely on Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming sequel to its award-winning sci-fi RPG. The event promises new gameplay, developer commentary, and fresh details about the much-anticipated follow-up.
“Immediately following Showcase, ‘The Outer Worlds 2’ Direct will bring you inside the walls of Obsidian Entertainment, revealing new gameplay, details, and developer insights, straight from the people making the sequel to the award-winning, first-person sci-fi RPG,” Microsoft added.
Originally announced in 2021, The Outer Worlds 2 has seen limited public updates since its cinematic debut trailer. Fans are eager for a deeper look into the game’s systems, story direction, and visual upgrades, especially given Obsidian’s growth under Xbox Game Studios.
This double-stacked broadcast also reinforces Microsoft’s recent strategy of anchoring summer announcements around a focused, event-style format. With Xbox continuing to build momentum through acquisitions, Game Pass expansions, and studio output, June 8 is now locked in as a major date for gamers and industry analysts alike.
In the absence of E3, which remains on indefinite hiatus, Microsoft’s showcase has become one of the most influential summer gaming events globally. The June 8 showcase is expected to include updates across Xbox Series X|S, PC, and potentially even cloud gaming integration, in line with Microsoft’s broader platform strategy.
As always, the presentation will be available across all official Xbox social platforms, YouTube, and Twitch.
