Bobby Brown Calls Out Britney Spears Over ‘My Prerogative’ Remake

Bobby Brown is not biting his tongue when it comes to Britney Spears and her 2004 cover of My Prerogative.

On a recent episode of Club Shay Shay, the New Edition legend opened up about how much he disliked the pop star’s version of his 1988 classic, saying flat out that Britney “butchered” it.

“I don’t think they did it justice,” Bobby told Shannon Sharpe when asked about artists sampling or covering his music. “Britney Spears butchered ‘My Prerogative.’ Teddy Riley produced it, but that was a butchering I couldn’t take.” Brown admitted that while he gave clearance at the time – mainly because it was Britney and Teddy Riley was involved – he wouldn’t do it again without hearing the final product first.

The original My Prerogative was a bold personal statement from Bobby during a time when critics were questioning his decision to go solo after leaving New Edition. It wasn’t just a hit – it was a declaration of independence, about living life on your own terms without caring what others think. That kind of raw emotion is hard to duplicate, and clearly, Bobby feels Britney missed the mark.

He went on to issue a warning to other artists and producers: “You don’t know what these kids will say these days. These kids say some s*** that… you don’t want your song associated with it.”

While Britney’s version was popular at the time of release, Bobby’s recent comments show that commercial success doesn’t always mean creative approval.

Whose version of My Prerogative do you vibe with more – Bobby’s original or Britney’s pop twist?
