Verdansk is officially back, and this time, it’s not a limited-time fling.
Call of Duty: Warzone game director Peter Actipis has confirmed that the fan-favorite map isn’t just making a brief return, it’s “sticking around.”
After being removed in December 2021, Verdansk’s comeback has sparked serious hype among the Warzone community. Players flooded back in, nostalgic for the original battle royale vibes. Now, according to Actipis, that return wasn’t just for show.
“We brought Verdansk back for a reason,” he told IGN. “It wasn’t just to bring it back for a season and kind of say goodbye to it again. A lot of effort went into it.”
So yeah, it’s not going anywhere for now, and maybe longer.
Actipis didn’t lay out Raven Software’s entire map strategy going forward, but it’s clear Verdansk isn’t a temporary plug-in. It’s part of what he calls the “Verdansk 2025 journey.” That means updates, evolution, and maybe even full-on expansions.
“It was a nostalgic map that we loved and it’s fun to play on,” he added. “We just want to keep investing in it and continue to make it a better experience for our players.”
The move is a big win for longtime fans who felt disconnected from Warzone’s previous map rotations. Caldera wasn’t everyone’s favorite, and while newer locations had their moments, Verdansk always had that OG charm, big city brawls, tight Gulag runs, and a layout that rewarded skill and strategy.
Actipis wrapped up by thanking the players who’ve come back since Verdansk returned, and teased that the future roadmap is packed.
“The launch of Verdansk, the simplification of our systems and our mechanics and just the flow, is the beginning,” he said. “We’re going to cultivate the game and we’re pretty excited for our roadmap moving forward.”
So what does this mean? Verdansk is the anchor now. It’s not just a nostalgia hit, it’s the core of Call of Duty: Warzone moving ahead. And based on the response so far, the fans are more than ready for it.
